Foreign Languages and Singing

In the past, I would have never thought I would sing in German in Texas. I learned the song last year.. Years ago, I sang folk songs in quite a few European languages including German but I thought it was all a past matter. In the Hill Country, due to history of the land, German is in use again.

Pictures from our September walks in the area.

Tancuj, Tancuj

Last year, during the October Fest, I asked one of the Czech bands who played there, to sing this song. Well, they did not know it. Maybe because it is actually a Slovak song. However, I had learned it from Czech friends, during one of the EU educational projects I was part of.
Tancuj, Tancuj means Dance, Dance.

Caroling in Hill Country - Still

Since this year's Christmas has been stripped from most of the traditional seasonal celebrations, I enjoy looking at the pictures taken in December 2019, recollecting the busy and joyful time - the Christmas parade, church walk, our meeting with Santa, and the old-time "pioneers" at the Rangers' Center.

Lorelei and the Heart of Texas

The landscape of the Hill Country always amazes me with its beauty. It all makes me sing in various languages. :-) Lorelei is a German folk song. Since most of the Hill Country pioneers were of German/Prussian descent, singing in German here has its reasons.

Nativity Scenes

Christmas is different this year. No usual Christmas events. That is why I came back to the photos taken last year. The display of nativity Scenes took place in a local church in December 2019.

My Lockdown Song

This is my version of the song "Ja, mein(e) Liebe Tochter". Related to walking and being alone. Nobody really wants the latter, not for a long time at least. Well, 2020 has been a weird yera, it even has made me sing solo in public. I have not done it since I was 15 but then, it was totally different - I sang at the all school gathering with the music teacher's piano accompaniment + the school choir support.

The pictures from our walk on 1 September 2020.

The song

Mom, may I go for a walk?

Yes, my beloved/dear daughter.

Mom, may I romance?

Yes, my beloved/dear daughter.

Mom, mom of mine, nobody wants to be all alone.

Mom, may I go for a walk?

Yes, my beloved daughter.

Squirrel & Other Critters

During our walks we met not only deer. However, they appeared most often. We also happened to have quite a lot of other companions.

Cave Creek Again

It has become cold, the winter weather came quite early. On chilly days it is nice to recall our summertime walks. Here in another slideshow from August.

In some previous posts I included slideshows made with the PhotoPeach online tools. Sadly, the service is going to be suspended/closed in January 2021, and those slides won't be available anymore.

Summer Reminiscences

Recently, the temperature dropped dramatically and summer turned suddenly into winter. No walking conditions at all. It is think of warmer/much hotter days in August when we could enjoy our outside activity.

Outside Buddies

We have many outside buddies whom we meet while we walk - wildlife (including jackrabbits, deer, squirrels, armadillos, vultures, other birds, and more), farm-life (longhorns, cowies, sheepies, jackasses, hens, goats, roosters) and somebody else's pets (e.g. doggies, cats, llamas, ostriches). There was even a bison and a zebra. Some of the buddies you can see in the slideshow below.

Last July Walk

The sky was so pretty on that day.

And a short video - the deer were quite far from us.

New Walking Trail

We had been on that road before. It was in the winter with a walking group. At that time, the leading party set such a pace, there was no chance to admire the views and area, not to mention taking pictures. We were so busy keeping up with the group - there was no chance to capture all the beauty of the trail. When we came back, we did take our time and even met a deer who was willing to pose for the photos.

Walking at Dawn

Thanks to our early morning walking activities we can admire the colors of the skies at dawn. However, it is also about training our strong will. Not so easy to get up before the sun comes up.

Proud Walkers

Very proud of our walking - it is so easy to skip it and sit at home, not that easy to make ourselves exercise again and again. However, the views and the area are so nice here so it is great to be out enjoying the area.

Cowie had her photo session too.

Hill Country Country Road

Beautiful landscape, fresh air, cute deer, calming birds' songs and farm fields. We do love it all.

Deer Are Watching US

Deer Land Again on PhotoPeach

While watching nature during our walks, we are aware that many eyes are watching us as well - deer, jackrabbits, armadillos, birds and you name it.

Wild Turkeys

We spotted them when we were doing a walk with our walking group. Taking pictures slowed us down and later we had to catch up with the group but I could not pass those turkeys without filming them. One does not see them every day.

In The Deer Land

Here is one of our favorite walking areas. It would be great to have a house there.
In the video below you cannot actually hear the squeaky sound of the windmill. It did sound like the end of the world Jerycho's horn message.
